Head Start Miami
We want to see the children of our community thrive. That means having access to good medical care, nourishing and ample food, and the preschool skills that provide a strong foundation for a lifetime of learning. Education is so important, which is why we love programs like Head Start. It provides early learning tools for children who may not otherwise be properly prepared for kindergarten. When a child begins formal education at a disadvantage, it can be hard to recover from and correct.

TV and Early Learning
Watching television has a negative impact on early academic skills. A recent study at New York University has found that watching television for more than a couple hours a day is linked to lower skill readiness skills among kindergarteners, particularly among children from low-income families.
The study concluded that parents of pre-school children should limit their child’s television viewing to the guidelines set by the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP). In 2001, the group recommended that youngsters over the age of 2 watch no more than two hours of television a day. In 2016, the AAP reduced its television viewing guidelines for children 5 and under to no more than one hour a day.
